Since it is a Thursday and my host parents could not go out for dinner to celebrate Delphine's birthday, I offered to make dinner. (Apparently that included baking dessert in everyone's mind so thankfully I caught on to that in time!)
Alex, before leaving for school, brought me a hand full of change and
whispered, "these are for the flowers for my mom!" It was so cute! He
had planned on surprising Delphine with flowers and was excited to use
his own money. While he only had 3.50, I decided to help him out a bit. I
picked out dark pink gerber daisies and the florist wrapped them up in a
very fancy way!
It started out a nice day, got a pain au chocolat (chocolate croissant), met a friend near Sacre Coeur and walked lot's of stairs, enjoyed the quiteness of the place. Relaxing!
AND I couldn't help but see these onesies and want to send them all to Juneau!!
After my morning in Paris, I rushed home to go buy some groceries for dinner and cake. Time was flying by way faster than I had anticipated. I quickly decided on a lemon olive oil cake for dessert and for dinner, I would whip up my mom's specialty olive tampenade and pancetta pasta with some roasted zucchini and carrots on the side. I had just enough time to bake the cake and get it out to cool before I had to pick up the kids. It was a hit! Phew.
If you get the chance, seriously, make an olive oil cake! It was so good and so fun to make. Part of the process includes whipping egg whites and folding it into the batter. It was a pretty cake before it had even been baked! I was trying to figure out what temperature 350 Farenheit was in Celsius and I think google led me a little bit astray. The oven was a bit hotter than I planned but the cake turned out fine, thank goodness! In fact, the kids looooved it. Malo went in for seconds. Score!
Alex started out as my little dinner helper then got too wild and quit on me. Fine by me, thank goodness! After dinner, he went and grabbed the bouquet of flowers and presented them to Delphine and the first thing he said was "I don't have any more money now", but he was so excited to give her flowers that I don't think he really even cared.
Overall, it was a good day! And now it's over, ahhhhhhh.

“Oh, London is a man's town, there's power in the air;
And Paris is a woman's town, with flowers in her hair;
And it's sweet to dream in Venice, and it's great to study Rome;
But when it comes to living, there is no place like home.”
