Bakeries & Baking

Basically a cookie/graham cracker crust, sweetened condensed milk caramel filling, banana slices and whipped cream on top all thrown together = Banoffee pie. Apparently a popular British dessert. Julie and I made this pie after their last au pair wrote it down for them as her favorite recipe. Not really my cup of tea...too much sugar and not enough pizazz but it was good:) It looked pretty, too.

My favorite thing to do in France is to walk into a boulangerie/patisserie. First off, because it is the birthplace of bread and all things pastry-related. Secondly, because the smell is divine. And thirdly, because it usually means I'm going to indulge my taste buds eating something from there. My morning stop by the bakery was quite enjoyable, as they always are :) Although, I held out on any pastries today.

“Oh, London is a man's town, there's power in the air;
And Paris is a woman's town, with flowers in her hair;
And it's sweet to dream in Venice, and it's great to study Rome;
But when it comes to living, there is no place like home.”
