Missionary Thursday

Once again, skipped a day of French school to hang with the soeurs. Best darn reason to play hooky, am I right?

I had already set up a manger-vous with my favorite soeurs and Aubrey for that afternoon but then I got a call from some other soeurs who wanted to know if I would teach with them that morning! I was nervous but more than happy to agree. I thought it was crazy they even called me because I don't think I'd ever met them let alone, that they knew who I was. Inspired, right? Well they explained that they'll be teaching an investigator named from England and that she's a super cute girl and just loves Jesus and is new to Christianity. I was excited to do what I could to teach her and share my testimony in some way.

I had to restock my postcard pile so I was searching feverishly around to find some cheap ones. Thankfully, the St Merri building is by Notre Dame and a ton of souvenir shops so I wove my way in and out of each one trying to spot a good deal. Finally, I found a 12 for 2 euro deal and got some. The man at the counter spoke some English but his Indian accent was so thick that I resorted to speaking French with him instead. Another win for French!

When I got to the building, I found a ton of Elders who were all waiting for their district meeting to begin so I awkwardly tried making conversation but it is just a bad mix to put me and Elders together because I was awko-taco ad couldn't even hold a normal conversation. Aaaaaand I didn't know which soeur missionaries I was waiting for.

Well, Soeur Archibald and Soeur Clarkson got there and introduced themselves and we waited for our amie but, unfortunately, she didn't show :( Either way, I had a great time talking with all those missionaries (or jut standing near their squad) and studying up on the Plan of Salvation the night before.

After that, I ran around getting Emma's birthday gift all settled and then booked it over to La Defense. That place gets cooler every time I go! Aubrey and I met up with the soeurs at Chipotle and every time I go in there, my french falls flat on its face and I am grateful those people speak English. Aubrey turned to me after ordering and said, "well, I just failed at French." Honey, me too.

We sat and talked with Soeur Simpson and Walton and played their game that goes comme ca: If yo had any painting hanging in a plain room, what would it be? I said Monet right away; it was the first thing that came to mind! Then it was a dresser, then a couch, and then weddings, and then wedding dresses... great game. After we finished lunch, we just had to do as the French do and go get dessert. So....Marks and Spencer. Huge one right below La Defense. I might have fallen in love. I ended up buying an entire gluten-free lemon drizzle cake for myself. It took me a while to get through that and I will never do that again in my life but, hey, always a time for firsts. Meanwhile, everyone else ate a cookie or a muffin. Then there's Julia with her personal sized cake. Such a fatty.

Unfortunately, I had to cut our time short so I could go relieve Delphine of watching Alex since he stayed home sick all day again. And don't even get me started on Friday. Home. All day. In the house. With him. I was going to go crazy! Thankfully that day is over now.
But thankful for the soeurs too!

“Oh, London is a man's town, there's power in the air;
And Paris is a woman's town, with flowers in her hair;
And it's sweet to dream in Venice, and it's great to study Rome;
But when it comes to living, there is no place like home.”
