The day I caved...

I have been resisting every urge to create a food stash in my bedroom...every urge! But ever since going gluten-free, I have been woken up at 3 am with hunger pains like nobodies business. So the idea doesn't seem too bad now.

Well, it all started with a box of mini candycanes that my mom sent me for Thanksgiving. My kids showed interest and I was like, "SIKE! These candied, minty, symbols of all things good and Christmasy are all mine." In the closet they went.

Then, during a hungry shopping episode at Marks & Spencer (the greatest store in Paris), I bought my own jar of peanut butter. I have eaten peanut butter twice since living here! I deserved it! Well, me, a spoon, and Mr. Peanut Butter have had a few nice nights alone with Netflix.

Then I made the change into gluten-free world. The hunger was on for real and so shortbread caramel pepites cookies were quickly introduced to Mr. Peanut Butter under the cover of night and my bedroom snacking days were officially commenced.

Today, it was the chocolate bar. Here I type while munching on a dark chocolate, noisette bar that I have resisted for so long. But I've been living off of yogurt, rice, and potatoes and I deserved it, right? Don't answer that. I've heard so many stories of other nannie's food stashes and yet I never fell into that void. Mainly because I was too cheap to justify buying snack food, but still.

Well ladies and gentlemen who have tuned into Julia's life, I formally announce my position as an "Au Pair... with secret snacks".

Signed & Sealed,
Julia
Gluten-free and missing everything delicious and good.

Although I am going crazy for potatoes right now! And when I tried explaining to my 10-year old what "hash browns" were, he literally flipped over the fact that we eat potatoes for breakfast. An actual flipping occurred. Not a thing in France. Not. A. Thing. (Go, America!)

And Paris is a woman's town, with flowers in her hair;
And it's sweet to dream in Venice, and it's great to study Rome;
But when it comes to living, there is no place like home.”
