Sans Gluten en France, Oh la la!

Not only is going gluten-free a new years resolution of mine, it is actually a much needed change to improve my health with all this thyroid stuff going on. So, it's been a week since I officially went gluten-free and I feel great and my host family are totally on board with it as well.

I'm so grateful that rice crackers exist. I can't have french baguettes or crepes or croissants, or galettes, or pizza, or gateaux...but I can't think about that. I just have to remember how good it feels! Those are my saving graces for the times I just want a PB&J or toast for breakfast. It's very cute how Alex and Malo constantly ask, "can you eat...?" A common one is "Nutella". Yes, yes. I can still eat Nutella hahaha

Gluten free, though, is not a well understood concept here. (Understandable!) My host mom went to the grocery store and was asking a worker if they had any gluten-free food and she saw a flier that said, "Whether you eat gluten-free because of intolerance, sensitivity, or by personal choice..." She was shocked people actually choose not to eat gluten by choice! She had never heard of that.... Why do people not eat bread? Oh man hahahaha

I'm feeling good, eating a lot of rice, and am on my way to feeling 100%!

But it's so hard!! Thankfully there's no gluten in smells lol
These bakeries are literally heaven. I can imagine going gluten-free back home or in Japan or something, but in FRANCE!? The capital of baguettes and pastries! Why here?

“Oh, London is a man's town, there's power in the air;
And Paris is a woman's town, with flowers in her hair;
And it's sweet to dream in Venice, and it's great to study Rome;
But when it comes to living, there is no place like home.”
