Parc Asterix

The perks of being "the nanny" comes in a few different forms. One is tagging along on road trips through cute little French villages or eating a nice, celebratory dinner out. Another, luckily for me, is accompanying the kids to amusement parks and being the thrill-ride chaperone. Delphine absolutely hates the stomach dropping feeling on rides so, lucky for me, I got to do the crazy ones with Malo and Julie.

Our first beast to tackle: Oziris. I would say it is the most extreme roller coaster at the park, let alone in Paris between Euro Disney and Parc Asterix. It's one where your feet dangle down while you to twists, turns, and upside down loops at crazy speeds. Julie was so insistent on going on this one, Malo was kind of forced to go along. It was either me and Julie or going with Delphine and Alex on all the baby rides. Plus he didn't want to chicken out in front of me! ;) Personally, I was shocked he even got on the ride when we finally got to the front. It was a thrill! We loved it so much, we ended up doing it again that night.

Second ride: Goudorix. Malo, indeed, chickened out on this one. With a great view of Northern France, the climb on this ride is quite nice. And then comes the drop. It is loop after loop after loop after loop. Basically that is all the ride consists of! It was fabulous.

Third ride: Tonnere de Zeus
A wooden rollercoaster that I'm sure would certify me for having whiplash afterwards. It was much faster than the other rides. It SEEMED like it was so much faster than the other rides, but apparently it was just all the whipping around on a rattling track that made it seem that way. Unfortunately, this one was Julie's favorite. We went on it twice, too. The drop at the beginning went from the tallest peak to even going underground. When you rebound back up, the curve is so small it seriously felt like my neck cracked forward. Not my fav to say the least.

Fourth: La Trace de Hourra
It was a unique coaster for sure. The track was a tube and the carts were on wheels instead of an actual track. It was so smooth, a bit slow, and the seating was really weird. For a couple of the rides, you had a person sitting in your lap. This one was a bit boring.

Malo really loved the water rides for some odd reason. I mean, it was already cold outside and it had rained a bit that day already so the last thing we all wanted was to get even more wet and cold. But whatever, I was just the chaperone. I went along. One was called Menhir Express and when it went down into the big splash like Splash Mountain does, the water was not deviated from the little boat. No, no, no. You got drenched from head to butt to toes. Definitely a least favorite. Just for that. I mean, even as being advertised as a kid ride, the drop on this was quite substantial!

We went on some other rides in between like a super lame kid coaster (accidentally) and two tube rides that spun as you went down hills and waterfalls. But the best part in between was definitely the show at lunch time. It took place in the Colosseum Arena and was performed by some very talented stunt artists/dancers/gymnasts. The theme was basically a gladiator battle between the Romans and the Gaulians (sp??). It was funny and super impressive. Back flips, flying through the air on ropes, segue races, handstands on top of those foot segue things. I wish I had that much talent aka muscle!

As the park was closing, Julie and I inhaled our snack (her a chocolate waffle and I a Magnum ice cream bar) and sprinted to get in line once more at Zeus'. Safe to say, it was a fun day at the amusement park! Probably not good for the back but ya know what, yolo.

“Oh, London is a man's town, there's power in the air;
And Paris is a woman's town, with flowers in her hair;
And it's sweet to dream in Venice, and it's great to study Rome;
But when it comes to living, there is no place like home.”
