Les Chefs

One night I was flipping through my new gluten-free cookbook and Malo suggested that we should make dinner one night this week. I was thrilled! I love cooking, especially if its a kid who wants to help me. (Points from the parentals, really).

He decided on Gratin Dauphinois and viande. Never even heard of it but why not!

I'm pretty sure this recipe was supposed to be cheesey and melty but my recipe book went the dairy-free way and had me using creme de riz instead. It was a little like glue.

Nonetheless, Malo was an awesome little chef and we had a good time cutting potatoes and trying to decipher the recipe. I definitely had to translate words because I never learned what it means to boil water or arrange potatoes in the pan or dissolve the powder... Thank you, Google Translate! It was quite an adventure.

ANd then the next night consisted of Alex helping me make some crispy orange chicken! Yum! It was so easy and everyone seemed to love it so wahoo. Alex was the chicken-batter-dipper. First in the egg then the cornstarch. Plus it was like the easiest meal ever. BBQ sauce, orange marmalade, and soy sauce = the sauce. So easy and so yummy!

“Oh, London is a man's town, there's power in the air;
And Paris is a woman's town, with flowers in her hair;
And it's sweet to dream in Venice, and it's great to study Rome;
But when it comes to living, there is no place like home.”
